Dear IHSA Basketball Official,
In this season of joy, wonder and giving, I am coming to you with a request…Special Olympics Illinois is rapidly approaching its tournament season and we are in desperate need of your help and your skills. Many of you have already responded and signed on, and I thank you on behalf of the Special Olympics athletes. But we have a herd of panicked tournament directors, short on officials so I am sending out this second request for your help.
If you’ve already signed on, thank you again and again…could you perhaps convince a friend to join you? If you’ve helped in the past, but just haven’t called, would you consider doing that now (to relieve that panicked herd!)? If you’ve never volunteered with one of our events, would you consider doing that now? You will never know true appreciation of athletic effort until you’ve worked with our athletes…you’ll find that they embody the true joy of sport and sportsmanship. You will discover that disability is nowhere to be found, but that every level of ABILITY is. Our athletes will amaze you and you will rediscover why you love basketball, and athletic endeavor, through their efforts. Try us once…and you’ll be back!
Linked here you’ll find our District and State Tournament dates and contact information. Please do take a look at it and see if you couldn’t fit in a game or two? At all district and state tournaments, officials will be provided with a lunch, volunteer t-shirt and round-trip mileage. At the State Tournament, Special Olympics Illinois will cover over-night accommodations.
Special Olympics Illinois could not offer the high quality, competitive events that we do without the help of individuals such as yourselves. Our athletes continue to improve and achieve because of your support and the sharing of your gifts as not only officials, but as teachers of the game. And, truly, we can’t do it without you.
If you are interested and available to help with any of these tournaments, please call or contact the tournament director listed at the event you’re available for, or you can contact me here at the State Headquarters if you have further questions.
Thank you, again and again, for your consideration, your time and your support.
Sincerely,
Maggie Dittburner
